Our location


 

Our location means you are ideally situated to explore Skye. Twenty five miles to the North is Skye’s capital, Portree, with all of its shopping, hotels and dining facilities. Further to the North West is Dunvegan with its world-famous castle, seat of the Clan Macleod for nearly 800 years. Apart from tours of the castle and grounds, boat trips to the seal colonies are a great attraction here. Whilst in the North West of the island take in such sights as Kilt Rock and waterfall tumbling 600 feet into the sea down a sheer cliff, the Trotternish Ridge with the famous Old Man of Storr and Quiraing and also Uig with its ferry to the Outer Hebrides.

A short drive South from the cottage takes you to Sleat, ‘The Garden of Skye’, where Armadale Castle and Talisker distillery and visitor centre are major attractions.

Coastal and hill walks


 

There are of course, endless coastal and hill walks and stunning vistas within a short distance of the cottage. So whether you’re a serious climber, wanting to take on the challenge of the world famous Cuillin Ridge or just fancy a relaxing stroll surrounded by stunning natural beauty, the Isle of Skye is the place for you! Boat trips sets off from Elgol and travel up Loch Coruisk, so views of wildlife, nearby Islands and close up scenes of the Cuillins can be appreciated.

Equally great for kids and adults

Skye is rich in wildlife with large birds like the golden and sea eagles, buzzards and ravens visible from public roads, whilst little wheatears and meadow pippets flit across boggy moors and fields. Turn to the sea and there are the herons, eider ducks, curlews, manx shearwaters and oyster catchers. Rocky beaches and pools are an endless delight with their wealth of creatures and seaweeds. If you’re really luck you may catch sight of seal head popping out of the water or one of Skye’s many otters playing in the shallows below the cottage.

Restaurants


There are numerous restaurant close to the cottage offering a wide range of cuisines. If you’d preffer fine dining, then there is of course the world-renowned Three Chimneys restaurant in Dunvegan or the Kinloch Lodge in Sleat, which both offer superb Highland fare.
